Car cover for stubborn winter mornings a good idea?

Anyone try this or thought about it? My dad was insisting I get one, I wonder if it'll make my mornings better (considering the time to cover and remove). I hate scraping ice off the windshield, clearing snow, and thawing the car in general.

EDIT: THANK YOU GUYS! From the replies it is clear that it is not a good idea, especially from a auto detailing perspective. I'm kind of anal about my paint (as most of us are), so I guess I'll pass on it then.

Buut, for my old Honda I would sometimes cover my windshield with an old bed sheet sheet and then close the front doors with both sides of the sheet in them. It stuck to the windshield, but it got the job done lol. Maybe something similar? Or not?

Nope. The first time it's frozen down and you have to rip it off you'll be pissed and it will be ruined. Good for storage if it's going to stay put. Bad for 'active use'. You can't scrape a cover...

What I've noticed with using a cover in winter, and trying to pull it off when it's s till remotely cold out/there's still any ice/snow out is that the cover will freeze to the car. Depending the quality, might rip off the inside of you cover, leaving it frozen to your car.

as long as you don't get freezing rain or sleet it'll be ok. and as long as you only get a little bit of snow. also, you'll want to make sure and store the cover indoors while you're away from the house.

I personally don't like car covers because they often leave swirl marks from repeated use on dirty cars.

I usually just spray that rainX stuff on my windows before a snow. Brushing the snow off never really takes that long.

I just use a piece of cardboard on the windshield, as long as there's no precipitation forecast. Snow's easy enough to clear, and rain will soak it/stick it to the windshield. A cover with any measurable snow will also just be a pain to deal with, imo.

I've never tried these windshield covers, but I imagine they are somewhat better than car covers. I'd think they'd share some downsides (freezing onto windshield) and possibly have an issue with wind, but at least it won't harm your paint.

I've also noticed that having a fresher coat of Rain-X tends to help ease scraping off ice/snow some cases.

And if there is a bit too much wind, it will fly off. Even if you tie it down. I drove with a car on a trailer and a car cover tied down (at several places) to it and my speed was ~45mph, it was still coming off.
